Before using Differin

You should not use Differin if you are allergic to adapalene.
FDA pregnancy category C. Differin may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether adapalene passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use Differin without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How should I use Differin?

Use Differin exactly as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Using more medicine or applying it more often than prescribed will not make it work any faster, and may increase side effects. Do not use this medication for longer than your doctor has prescribed.
Differin is usually applied once daily in the evening.
Wash your hands before applying Differin.

Differin side effects

Stop using Differin and get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
During your first 4 weeks of using Differin, your skin may be dry, red, or scaly. You may also feel some burning or stinging. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe.
Less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as mild burning, warmth, stinging, tingling, itching, redness, or irritation.

What other drugs will affect Differin?

It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied Differin. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.
